New Breast Milk Collection Site Opens in Bristol, Tenn.
BRISTOL, Tenn. — Mothers’ Milk Bank of Tennessee is opening a new breast milk collection site at Integrated Health Concepts, providing an additional drop-off location for approved donor mothers. The site supports the milk bank’s mission to provide pasteurized donor human milk to vulnerable infants when maternal milk is unavailable or insufficient.
“At Integrated Health Concepts, our holistic approach extends beyond the walls of our clinic and into the community we serve. Supporting Mothers’ Milk Bank of Tennessee by hosting a donation freezer allows us to help nourish vulnerable infants while uplifting breastfeeding mothers,” said Dr. James Schrenker, medical director.
Mothers’ Milk Bank of Tennessee partners with 26 hospitals and medical clinics that serve as breast milk collection sites across the state. Donated milk collected at these Milk Drop Depots is transported to the milk bank’s lab in Murfreesboro, where it undergoes pasteurization and bacteriological testing. The nonprofit primarily serves premature and medically fragile infants in neonatal intensive care units across Tennessee.
“This depot marks an important step in advancing our mission and increasing access to donor milk for families and hospitals,” said Amy Painter, executive director of Mothers’ Milk Bank of Tennessee. “Every ounce of donor milk can make a difference in the life of a premature baby. This partnership will make donating significantly easier for approved donors in northeastern Tennessee.”
A ribbon-cutting and grand opening celebration took place at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, at 1615 Bluff City Hwy., Bristol, Tenn.
To become a donor, individuals must first complete a free health screening through Mothers’ Milk Bank of Tennessee. Approved donors may call 423-573-9873 to schedule a drop-off at Integrated Health Concepts. For more information, visit milkbanktn.org.
